Try the non tourist cities Isan, such as Nakhon Ratchasima (3rd largest city by population) Khon Kaen, Udon Thani. Major urban centers with everything you'd need at a much lower price. The lack of tourists makes them so much more 'real Thailand'.

Fun stuff. Last time we were there, we stayed at Phrom Phran. The time before that up near Soi 55. Just places to stay while we did stuff. You Thai is great when ypu imitated that voice on the BTS. SATANI NANA. Mrecommendation to all Farangs to learning Thai is to become a mimic. The tones will sound better then. Otherwise it sounds odd to Khon Thai. It will be like saying , "I'll have a Cabernet Sovignon with no attempt to say it French like or order Tortilla chips and pronounce the l's. Great content.

It's interesting trying to describe the gentleness and the kindness of the Thai culture because you can't really do it with words. it's beyond what I understood as normal courtesy and such. It's interesting to hear him try to put it into words too. 😅

I understand the concept of retiring and just do nothing...but i'm the kind of dude that would look for a part-time job like in delivery service or something. i cannot just spend my last 15-25 years just doing nothing. a part time job will integrate you in the culture, helps you with the budget and leave you enough time to travel.

I encourage everyone to check out the blog of "Mr. Money Mustache". He is all about the financial independence retire early crown. Reading this blog will change your life. Funny enough he is a fellow Canadian "has lived in USA though". His math for retiring early mirrors much of what this video says. Most of the money people spend in the west is completely wasted and does not make your happy. Living frugally not only helps you retire earlier because you save more. It also helps you retire earlier because this new lifestyle will not cost you as much after your retire. He drives used cars and made a statement one time "who is more happy, the guy driving his brand new 60K truck to work on Tuesday, or me waking up and being able to do whatever I want on Tuesday. Calculating your retirement has nothing to do with time, it is a calculated number. When you get to that number you can retire.

I'm 50 yr old dude who's living the 9-5 cubicle grind (more like 8-6), who's trying to find a place to live/semi-retire in SE Asia. I've been mulling between Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, the usual suspects, but your vids really helped! I'm tired of the night light life and just wanting to chill, so I'm leaning more to a city like Chiang Mai than Bangkok, but we'll see. I can speak English, my GF can speak Korean and Chinese. Hopefully that helps some with the language barrier. Hopefully I can make the big jump sooner than later!

I've been to Thailand three or four times and I'm just now starting preparations to move sometime this next 6 months or so, finally. And, I lost count of how many times he's taken the words right out of my mouth. I can tell he lives there. He is so spot on about everything he said and I'm almost at the end of the video at this point. truly. Good stuff sir. Don't feel bad sir I've started to learn Thai just kind of on my own and listen you guys there's like a whole completely different alphabet and 20 plus vowels depending on how you look at it and 40 + consonants. It's really different. But, he's correct you didn't need it in the anywhere near where there's tourists going on lots of tie speak enough and if there's other stranger nearby and you need help you can find that. And the Google Translate app is great now and even if the person you're talking to can't read you push the button and the phone speaks it and most of the time they understand that even when I had the volume turned down too low

You know. It's fine when not many foreigners move in my country. But now it's started to feel overwhelmed. I started to see the effects. Here in Thailand we grew up in Buddhist culture which difference from any country else in this world. It's impossible to say when some area in Thailand becomes popular with foreigners it won't change anything. People bring their way their culture from their country here around my house. I wish the atmosphere was the same. I hope Thailand is still the country that fully conservative not much foreigners move around. Thais increasingly concern about this not just me. I do not want to see huge amounts of foreigners change my town my district my province. Many Thais started too feel uncomfortable watching recommendations to move to Thailand etc., I will be honest here Thais now feel uncomfortable with foreigners move in but we always welcome tourists.

Those who bitchz & moan: I'm sure they bitchzed & moaned where they came from. They left and moved to Thailand, bringing with them their toxic outlook on life. Well, here they are, in Thailand, bitchzing & moaning as usual. One's outlook in life is a choice one makes. Some choose to be happy, some not. Unfortunately, a down-er does a tendancy to bring down others around them.

Would I be correct in making the assumption that "because Thailand is a developing country and everything is new", that living in a condo/apartment in Bangkok, or any other major city, one could expect access to running water, electricity, and air conditioning 24/7, and that interruptions of service would be a rare occurrence, as in the probability of maybe once every ten years, or so? Just found RW4U, and I'm making my way around RW4U videos. I appreciate that these videos are quite informative. Thank you.

  • @practice4089

You said ask a question... First, I am planning to buy a Bangkok condo and live there year round, I won't be able to afford to go between two countries when I retire in two years. Also, paying rent will be like giving away what little wealth I will have accumulated. I regretfully spent too many years renting instead of owning and building some wealth. Do you know a solution to double taxation in this case? For those who argue that Bangkok condos are a bad investment... I just watched one of your videos from 2020 of a nice condo between the parks selling for $136k at the time. Similar condos in that building are now selling for $300k

Retirees who struggle to meet their basic needs are the ones who could not accumulate enough money during their active years to meet their needs. Retirement choices determine a lot of things. My parents both spent same number of years in the civil service, but my mom was investing through a wealth manager, and my dad through the 401k.

This is true. I'm in my mid 50's now. My wife and I were following this same trajectory. Last two years, I pulled out my money and invested with her wealth manager. Not catching up with her profits over the years, but at least I earn more. I'm making money even before retiring, and my retirement fund has grown way more than it would have with just the 401(k). Haha.

Its unfortunate most people don't have such information. I don't really blame people who panic. Lack of information can be a big hurdle. I've been making more than $287k passively by just investing through an advisor, and I don't have to do much work. Doesn't matter if the economy is misbehaving; great wealth managers will always make returns.

From experience, the best method to learn Thai is with "comprehensible input". The same way EVERY child learns their native language. There is a channel called "Comprehensible Thai", just watch the course in sequential order and you will reach near native fluency. No more translation in your head. No more bad pronunciation. No more bad grammar. No more relying on memorization of sentences etc. You should not even try to speak any Thai UNTIL you have listened to a few hundred hours.

Iglu seems like an interesting company, but the salary range is not even a quarter of a regular western IT salary. It makes more sense to work 3 months a year even as a freelancer remotely for a western customer than sign up for a fulltime job that way. I guess it is fine for someone who is not focused on salary.
